Workshop: Wayne RESA, Michigan, United States
Research involves teams of scientists collaborating across continents. Now, using the power of the Internet, non-specialists can participate too. During this two-day workshop, K-12 teachers will participate in two Citizen Science Projects -- The GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) Program and CoCoRaHS (Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network). During Part 1 participants will be trained in atmospheric protocols and how to submit data. Upon completion of Part 1, participants will be prepared to participate in both The GLOBE Project and CoCoRaHS. During the time between Part 1 and 2, participants will be expected to collect and submit data, doing “real science. During Part 2, participants will share their experiences in collecting and submitting data and apply this learning to citizen science projects based on recent NASA satellite missions, coordinated through The GLOBE Program. Participants will then apply the protocols to solid forms of precipitation. After the two-day workshop, each participant will be a certified GLOBE and CoCoRaHS teacher and prepared to bring these two projects into their classroom. Participants will receive the following materials: Rain Gauge, Snow Depth Gauge, Tips for Building a Snow Board, and Cloud Chart.  >>
