Phenology Campaign Landing

Phenology measurements help scientists determine how seasonal changes affect local plant life in regions around the world. By measuring the timing of phenomenon like green-up and green-down, researchers can also study how issues like climate change are impacting the environment. To help these science professionals monitor and compare phenological measurements around the world, several GLOBE regions and countries have created Phenology Campaigns, where students, teachers and citizen scientists can submit the phenology data they have gathered into GLOBE's database.

Regional Campaign Dates

There are local initiatives happening in GLOBE regions around the world. Check out the regions below to learn more about events, contacts and how to participate in a country near you.

Campaign Dates: February 2023 - June 2023

The Europe and Eurasia Phenology Campaign is focused on the seasonal changes of trees, the role that trees play in the global carbon cycle and the way they regulate temperature urban environments. In this campaign, participants will gather measurements like tree height and Green-up observations to learn more about seasonal variations in different tree species.

Campaign Dates: February 2023 - December 2023

The Trees Around Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Campaign is focused on identifying the most important trees within each region, describing their phenophases and identifying the environmental variables involved in their development. The campaign will also highlight the threats to tree ecosystems like fires, deforestation, pests, urbanization and other variables.

Campaign Dates: September 2023 - June 2024

The North America Phenology Campaign is focused on monitoring and reporting plant phenology data to help validate the end of the plant growing season and start of spring green-up. In this campaign, students will observe and report plant green-down and green-up, have opportunities to meet scientists, and collaborate with other students.
