Collect Observations to Enable NASA Earth Science

GLOBE empowers public participation in Earth system science by creating opportunities for volunteers to collect and contribute local environmental data to active NASA science missions. Our local on-the-ground observations offer scientists valuable data to refine satellite instruments and conduct other research.
Clouds photos taken within 5-minutes of NASA’s PACE satellite passing overhead and submitted through the GLOBE Observer app offer details on cloud edges and total cloud cover. GLOBE Land Cover observations with photos of leaf color change in forested areas are helping scientists verify PACE vegetation color indices. Land Cover observations of agricultural fields are useful to scientists as they fine tune their analysis of satellite data on growing crops. These are just a few of the ways GLOBE is contributing data to advance Earth science at NASA and beyond.
