GLOBE Field Cover Research Campaign
The new GLOBE Field Cover Research Campaign invites GLOBE volunteers to help NASA scientists better understand agricultural landscapes by collecting Land Cover observations of farm fields. The observations will support three NASA missions—NISAR, SWOT, and EMIT—by providing ground-based data that can help scientists verify and improve satellite observations of crops, soil, vegetation, and surface water.
Participants in regions where the growing season is beginning can contribute through March 2027 using the GLOBE Observer app’s Land Cover tool. Observations are especially needed in South America, India, and California, USA. Volunteers are asked to photograph agricultural fields and record information about field conditions, such as whether crops are growing, soil is bare, or crop residue is present. When crops are growing, participants should also estimate their height.
The campaign is starting soon! Learn more about the campaign and how to participate on the GLOBE Field Cover Research Campaign webpage.
