Earth Around Us Tents — Reports from U.S. GLOBE Partners

Beginning in 2016, the NH GLOBE Partnership at the Leitzel Center at the University of New Hampshire designed and created the Earth Around Us soil and water tents in collaboration with students, educators, and artists. Since then the NH Partnership has shared their work with the rest of the GLOBE community and there was great interest in the tents as a resource.

The U.S. GLOBE Office provided funding to additional Partnerships to integrate the Earth Around Us soil and water tents into their programming. Each Partnership recently submitted reports on their activities and you can read about them in the following news stories.

  • Boston University (Massachusetts): This spring, the Boston University GLOBE Mission Earth team reached over 300 pre-K to 8th grade students in Boston and Providence, Rhode Island, with their soil tent and activities.

  • Friends of the Rouge/Wayne RESA (Michigan): Friends of the Rouge will loan the tent and resources to local groups in the Metro-Detroit area, where 1.35 million people live within the Rouge River watershed.

  • GLOBE Goes to Camp (nationwide): The GLOBE Goes to Camp team trained camps in GLOBE soil protocols and learning activities before the 2025 summer camp season began. At one camp, more than 725 campers learned about soils.

  • Grand Valley State University/Annis Water Resources Institute (Michigan): During summer 2025, the Annis Water Resources Institute reached more than 1,300 K–12 students with the water tent at area water festivals.

  • University of Toledo/GLOBE Mission Earth (Ohio): The GLOBE Mission Earth team at the University of Toledo uses the soil and water tents with schools and other organizations in their network, including as part of field days at Earth Heart Farms in Ohio during fall 2024.
