Earth Around Us Tent Creates Connections in Southeast Michigan
U.S. GLOBE Partnership Wayne RESA and Friends of the Rouge recently received funding to purchase an Earth Around Us water tent and related materials. Friends of the Rouge will loan the tent and resources to local groups like schools, scout groups, and environmental clubs.
With 1.35 million people in the Rouge River watershed in Metro-Detroit, the educational impact for Friends of the Rouge will be expanded substantially by loaning the tent resources. In addition, these resources have already been beneficial at events by providing enhanced displays and being used as a backdrop to gather community feedback for current and future environmental education programming.

Erin Cassady from Friends of the Rouge said, “There is a great need for easily digestible environmental education focused on creating connections between community members and their river in Southeast Michigan. Using the materials and activities developed by the Earth Around Us Program for the water tent, groups across the watershed will have greater access to place-based watershed education.”
U.S. GLOBE Partnership Wayne RESA has collaborated with Friends of the Rouge for many years. GLOBE Partner David Bydlowski has a long-standing relationship with Friends of the Rouge as he was one of the original Rouge Education Project educators. Now a science consultant at Wayne RESA, David supports the Rouge Education Project through guiding curriculum development and training educators in GLOBE protocols. The Friends of the Rouge encourages participants to collect data, which leads to student-led research and presentations at the GLOBE Midwest Regional Student Research Symposium.
