Digging into Soil with GLOBE Goes to Camp

Camps in the GLOBE Goes to Camp project dug into soils this summer with a closer look at "The World Beneath Our Feet." Tina Harte Ballinger, NASA Langley Research Center, GLOBE Goes to Camp Pilot Project Coordinator, trained camps in soil protocols and learning activities prior to the 2025 summer camp season.

Through hands-on GLOBE learning activities such as Getting to Know Soil and Soil Treasure Hunt, campers discovered the importance of soil and the role it plays within ecosystems. The GLOBE Goes to Camp team revised several of the GLOBE learning activities to make them appropriate for an informal audience.

Shady Creek Outdoor Education Center in Nevada City, CA, reportedly led more than 725 campers through a soil class this summer using the GLOBE Goes to Camp resources.

GLOBE Goes to Camp received funding for an Earth Around Us soil tent that will be used with camps in the future.
