March 2013 GGIC Summary

March 2013 GGIC Summary

The National Atmospheric and Oceanic Administration released their March 2013 Global Temperature Update in mid-April, and showed that many places across the globe experienced extreme departures from normal temperatures. GLOBE schools were able to capture these extremes, shown in the map below, by participating in the Great Global Investigation of Climate in March 2013.

By observing daily maximum and daily minimum temperatures and submitting them to the GLOBE database, GLOBE Scientists were able to support the finding from NOAA.  Below you will find examples of monthly average temperatures that were observed at GLOBE schools (in red) compared to the climate normal for a nearby station.
