2020 Presentations

  • Latin America Regional Meeting (Nov. 18-20). Peter supports the LARM by providing feedback to student presentations and engaging in discussions about GLOBE in the Latin America community.  

  • GLOBE Virtual Europe and Eurasia Regional Meeting (October 26 – 29): Peter was a panelist for the Careers in Science and Education session. He discussed his career at NASA, education and answered student questions. http://www.2020globemeeting.eu 

  • Virtual North American Regional Meeting (October 19th – 22nd): Peter Falcon supported the virtual event and took part in breakout sessions on key message points on equality, diversity and inclusion in the program. 

  • World Space Week Croatia (Oct. 10). Peter presented to Srednja Škola Mate Blažine School in Labin Croatia to celebrate Croatia’s Space Week. The presentation focused on the history of satellites and NASA’s role in studying Earth using remote sensing satellites. 

  • GLOBE Virtual Meeting (July 13-16). Peters work in the Trees Campaign was presented in Brian Campbell’s presentation on the history and success of the Tree Campaign as well as focusing on year 3.   

  • GLOBE Africa Region Webinar (May 26). Peter Falcon was invited to present at the Africa Region Webinar. Peter presented on the CloudSat Mission and applied data. The presentation highlighted CloudSat’s and CALPISOS’s contribution to the study of weather, climate, aerosols, and pollution. 

  • Ireland Webinar on Air Pollution and Atmosphere (May 21). Dr.Michael Garay presented his research in aerosols and pollution in the county of Ireland during the COVID19 pandemic. 

  • MacArthur Fundamental International School Virtual Career Day (May 20, 2020). Peter Falcon took part in the MacArthur Fundamental Intermediate School Virtual Career Day event. Peter presented on his career, education, 21st century skill sets needed for work in the Information age and other career opportunities at JPL.  

  • South East Asia Regional Webinars (Ongoing). Peter attends the monthly SE Asia regional meetings providing feedback to presenters and supporting a Trees Campaign presentation with Brian Campbell. 

  • Slovakia’s Inaugural year in GLOBE and Earth Day Celebration (April 24th). On behalf of the U.S. Department of State, Peter Falcon provided two pre-recorded greetings welcoming the country of Slovakia into the GLOBE Program and encouraging teachers and students in becoming members of the GLOBE Program.   • Slovakia Today: Radio Slovakia International interview (April 29th). Peter Falcon was interviewed for a national radio station which includes 6 subsidiary stations though out the country of Slovakia.   • LA Zoo and Botanical Garden: Wild for the Planet Earth Day Celebration (April 29th). In support of the LA’s Zoo Wild for the Planet Earth Day celebration, Peter Falcon pre-recorded a demonstration of the GLOBE Observer citizen scientist mobile application. He highlighted the Clouds and Tree height features.   • Humans, the Earth and COVID19 webinar (April 22nd). JPL scientist Dr. Michael Garay was a key presenter in the GLOBE Italian partnerships webinar.   • April 22 2020: To celebrate Earth Day and the 25th anniversary of the GLOBE Program in South Africa, Peter Falcon was invited to give an overview of the SMAP soil moisture protocol and NASA Earth Day 2020: 50th Anniversary.  

  • Argentina webinar (April 8th). Dr. Erika Podest and Peter Falcon took part in a webinar with 20 students and teachers from Argentina. The Spanish speaking students presented their IVSS (International Virtual Science Symposium) work on mosquitos and satellite data. They had great questions about NASA satellites, where to get the data and which satellites would correlate with research on mosquitos and hydrology. Dr. Podest continues to follow up with the students and teachers via email. 

  • International Virtual Science Symposium (April 6th). Peter Falcon supported the IVSS by once again volunteering as a science judge. He reviewed over 6 projects in both English and Spanish, providing positive and constructive feedback

  • The National Science Bowl regional competition, JPL Pasadena California (January 26): Presentation on NASA’s GLOBE Observer Application, and demonstration. Presented by Peter Falcon, Rachel Zimmerman-Brachman, and Kalina Velev.
  • COSI Center of Science Industry, Columbus Ohio (May 1-4): Four live demonstrations on the GLOBE Observer citizen scientist mobile application. Presented by Peter Falcon.
  • JPL Educators Pre-Service Workshop, Pasadena California (June 25): Presented NASA’s GLOBE Observer Application. Presented by Peter Falcon and Rachel Zimmerman-Brachman.
  • Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing – 1969 to 2019, (July 15), Video presentation (NASA Missions for exploring the Moon) to students and the general public of Taiwan, hosted by the GLOBE Taiwan partnership and National Central University. Presented by Peter Falcon.
  • Satellites and Educators Conference, Los Angeles California (August 1): Co-presented NASA’s GLOBE Observer Application and GLOBE Program. Presented by Peter Falcon and Autumn Burdick.
  • GLOBE (NARM) North American Regional Meeting (October 15–17): Lighting talk presentation to GLOBE Partners, Status on Soil Moisture Sensor. Presented by Peter Falcon.
  • GLOBE Europe and Eurasia Regional Meeting, Trieste Italy (October 21– 25): Presented NASA and GLOBE Program Connections, NASA Science Resources for Teachers, Co-lead two drought sessions focusing on soils and the SMAP soil moisture sensor. Presented by Peter Falcon, Kalina Velev, and DR. Narendra Das. Trieste High School presentation, Studying Earth from Space. Presented by Peter Falcon.
  • Croatian school visits and US Embassy visit, Labin, Rijeka, Karlovac, Zagreb, Zadar, Omiś (October 28-November 5): Multiple presentations, and interviews made to GLOBE schools, presentations entitled NASA’s GLOBE Observer Application, and Studying our Planet from Space. Also discussed the GLOBE Program with the US Embassy in Croatia. Presented by Peter Falcon and Kalina Velev.
  • GLOBE Taiwan Special Event, National Central University (December 15-21). Co-led a GLOBE Train the Trainer training, Introduction to SMAP presentation, Globe Observer App presentation and training, Studying our Planet from Space presentation, and discussion of GLOBE Taiwan partnership with U.S. Diplomats of the American Institute of Taiwan.
