Student Research Symposium at the Toledo Zoo

Approximately 400 students participated in the research symposium at the Toledo Zoo as a part of the GLOBE Mission Earth (GME) and the 2025 Project Prairie Research Symposium. A total of 9 schools participated, and 98 students presented their work at the symposium on May 13, 2025. GME and Project Prairie involve students and teachers in different research programs, collecting data and presenting their findings. Students presented the data they had collected on the topics of their choice, which included surface temperature, atmosphere (clouds, precipitation), Hydrology (transparency, pH, conductivity), carbon (tree heights), and presented in the symposium.

Project PRAIRIE extends the Wild Toledo prairie initiative into local classrooms by utilizing the native prairie installations as living labs. Zoo education staff trains teachers and students to use the prairies installed on the participating schools for citizen science, inquiry learning projects, and follows up with related classroom programming.
