UHI presentation at the AAG Conference, Detroit


The effect of Urban Heat Island (UHI) was presented to a range of Geographers at the Association of American Geographers (AAG) conference in the week of March 24-28 in Detroit. The GLOBE program involves students in collecting surface temperature data to study the UHI effect. Dr. Kevin Czajkowski demonstrated the process of taking the surface temperature and encouraged participants to contribute their data to the program.Also, students associated with the GLOBE program presented their work at the conference. Femi presented the effects of Meningitis Outbreaks in Nigeria. Pramila gave the presentation on air quality and its environmental effects. Another student, Tanzia, gave a poster presentation was about UHI and air quality in the context of the Canadian wildfire event. Femi, Pramila, and Tanzia are all part of the GLOBE team at The University of Toledo.

The GLOBE program is a student research program that provides students and the public worldwide with the opportunity to participate in data collection and the scientific process.
