GLOBE Observer Connect: Tracking Fall Color with PACE
22 September 2026, 1 pm ET (17:00 UTC)
GLOBE is working to provide you more opportunities to contribute to NASA science, including through the current North American Phenology Campaign. This fall, GLOBE volunteers are invited to use GLOBE Land Cover to document changing leaf colors to help verify a unique new PACE leaf color product.
Learn more about this opportunity to support PACE in a GLOBE Observer Connect conversation with PACE vegetation scientist, Skye Caplan, on 22 September 2026, at 1 pm ET (17:00 UTC). Skye will introduce PACE, a new hyperspectral satellite designed to measure plankton, aerosols, clouds, and the ocean ecosystem, and she will describe some of the ways she is using PACE data to study plants on land, including the new leaf color product.
After the GLOBE Observer Connect conversation, all are invited to stay on the webinar to learn more about the North American Phenology Campaign and the GLOBE Trees Around the GLOBE campaign.
North American GLOBE Phenology Campaign Green-Down Webinar: August 19
Learn how to support your audience as they monitor tree fall color change at your site and share data with a global network through the GLOBE North American Green-Down Campaign. Also hear from NASA’s PACE terrestrial scientists, who are interested in comparing your ground-based photos of fall leaf color changes to PACE data.
Webinar resources:
- North American Phenology webinar slides
- PACE Fall Color slides from Fred Huemmrich, Goddard Earth Sciences Technology and Research (GESTAR) II, University of Maryland Baltimore County

Phenology In the Classroom
Two GLOBE educators, Ellen Ervin (elementary math and science specialist, NH) and Cheryl Williams (high school educator, AK), share how they have used the GLOBE Green-Down protocol in the classroom. Hear tips and learn about resources to teach phenology!
