Overview
GLOBE User Groups is an important part of the permissions that are given to users in the GLOBE system. This section allows you to view and edit the user’s system statuses, their user types and organization management status.
To view the User Groups section of a GLOBE member, edit their account and click on the GLOBE User Group link on the left.
In general, the system places the user in the appropriate user group(s) and system statuses when their account is created, and as they progress through their training. There are times, however, when a country coordinator or partner may need to manually override the system.
Click the Workshop / eTraining Override box to change a user’s account status. When you change a user’s Account Status, the user’s Training status may also change due to them being linked in some cases.
Let's review each of the system statuses:
Account Statuses
Account Requested – Unverified. Users who have requested a GLOBE Educator account but have not verified their email address. They are untrained users, so the system automatically gives them the untrained Training Status when their account is created. These users cannot log-in to the website or app until their email is verified.
Account Requested. Email verified and waiting for their account to be approved. The Training Status remains untrained.
Account Approved – The identity of these users have been confirmed and approved. These users can now do eTraining to become Trained GLOBE Educators. In the US, these users also get full site educator privileges (i.e. they get a My Page, can post to message boards, and their school becomes an active GLOBE school, etc.).
Pre-Candidates – Users who have been accepted into an Educator in-person workshop. Training Status remains untrained.
Candidates – Users who are participating in an in-progress workshop. Their Training status is now ‘In-Training’.
GLOBE Educators – Users who have been approved, vetted and formally trained. These members can enter measurements for all GLOBE protocols and have full educator site privileges. There are some exceptions where a GLOBE Educator may not be trained. These may be government officials or someone who should have full site privileges even though they are not formally trained.
GLOBE Observer – Unverified – Users who have created a GLOBE Observer account but have not verified their email address. These users cannot log-in to the website or app until their email is verified. Their Training Status is ‘untrained.
GLOBE Observer – These are email verified users with a GLOBE
Observer account. Observers can be formally trained (to do all
protocol measurements) or remain untrained (can only do the GO
protocols). Note: International GLOBE Observers are unable to do
eTraining currently.
Training Statuses
Untrained - the user has not been trained in a workshop or eTrained. Users with this status can only enter measurements for GLOBE Observer protocols
In-Training – the user is taking a GLOBE workshop.
Trained – the user has completed a workshop session or has been
eTrained. Users with this status can enter measurements for all
protocols.
User Types (or User Groups)
When a user creates an account, they identify what type of user they are. We can then use this to tailor website content based on the user type. For example, some content on the home page and roadmap pages have been customized for the different user types. Admin users can change the user type if needed which may give the user additional permissions and roles associated with the selected user type. For example, if the user is checked as a Country Coordinator, the user will get permission to access and manage various administrative tools like Workshop Admin and the Partner Dashboard.
Note: users are unable to change or self-select additional user types
for themselves (we don’t want a user to be able to self-check that
they are Country Coordinator, given all the additional permissions
they would get).
Special Permissions
This section is used to give Regional Directors, CCs, Partners, and Educators the organization manager role. The manager role allows the user to modify content (all managers) and users (CCs/Partners) associated with their school or organization. By default, teachers/educators are given the organization management role for their school.
