Over the course of three months (October–November–December), students actively carried out phenological observations on changes in plant coloration. They observed specially selected plants—hazelnut, walnut, and cornelian cherry—and assessed changes in leaf color. Students studied how chloroplasts break down in green leaves and how leaves transition from green to yellow pigmentation (chromoplasts).
Observations were conducted using special instruments, and the collected data were uploaded to a designated online platform. Through participation in the GLOBE project and the implementation of various activities, Eco Club members gained knowledge and observation skills, developed scientific thinking, and were given the opportunity for their collected data to be used in international research.
As a result, students strengthened their sense of responsibility, improved their ability to accurately record details, and learned to scientifically analyze natural processes. The Eco Club members plan to continue their active participation in the GLOBE spring project as well.
