North America Phenology Campaign FAQ

Yes! You can use the eTraining or read the field guide to learn how to collect the data and then check the box saying you are trained the first time you enter data. 

Unlike the European campaign, we are not measuring specific tree species- but encouraging students to measure any native tree species that are accessible to them. 

You can collect green-down data using the GLOBE Observer App or using paper data sheets. If you use paper data sheets, you can enter data using the GLOBE data entry site. 

Definitely! Once you have entered your site information and moved onto adding your Green-down data, click the “Add Plant” button for each tree you want to add and complete the fields for Vegetation Type, Genus, Species, and Label. Click “Update Site” when finished.

You can also add new trees to an existing site: 

  1. Click on “Create/Edit My Sites.” 

  2. Scroll to the site you want to edit and click on the pencil icon on the right side of the screen. 

  3. Scroll down to the “Site Specifications” section and click the arrow by “Biosphere.” 

  1. Click the arrow by “Greenings Site Setup.” 

  1. Under your current tree(s), you will see an option to add a new tree. Click the “Add Plant” button. 

  1. Complete the fields for Vegetation Type, Genus, Species, and Label. 

  1. Add more trees as needed by again clicking the “Add Plant” button. 

  1. When finished adding trees, scroll down and click “Update Site.” 

You can create guest accounts from your “MyObservations+” on the GLOBE website when you are logged in.  Students will log in to the app using the user name and login that you create and enter the data for their tree. All the data would be housed under your account/school. You can create up to 10 guest accounts. 

GLOBE never collects any student information; student accounts are anonymous. Students are able to log in with a GLOBE username and password created by the educator and all the data they submit is logged under the educators name/school. There is more information about privacy with GLOBE here.
