This study analyzes long-term changes in nitrate and nitrite concentrations and pH values in the Javorica Stream from 2000 to 2024, with the aim of understanding the impact of environmental factors and human activities on water quality. The main research question focuses on how these parameters have changed over time and what factors may have caused these changes. The data used in this study were obtained from the GLOBE database and were entered by our school based on regular weekly measurements.
The results indicate an increasing trend in nitrate and nitrite concentrations, which may be associated with intensified agricultural activities and wastewater discharge. Seasonal analysis shows higher concentrations during spring and summer, when fertilizer use is more frequent. pH values fluctuate seasonally and are influenced by both natural processes and potential sources of pollution.
These findings highlight the importance of long-term environmental monitoring and the need to implement measures to protect the Javorica Stream and improve local water quality.
