Girl Scout /SciStarter Tree Promise Effort to Plant 5 Million Trees in 5 Years Highlights Use of GLOBE Observer Trees Tool
Girl Scouts has teamed up with SciStarter (a GLOBE Partner, which provides a database of thousands of vetted, searchable projects and events through an online citizen science project directory) to curate projects for girls, volunteers, and others to deepen their engagement as they participate in the “Tree Promise” project and learn more about citizen science.
The Girl Scout Tree Promise aims to plant, protect, and honor 5 million trees across the United States in five years. Anyone, anywhere, can join this global movement to address climate change, one tree at a time. This effort is highlighting the use of The GLOBE Program’s app, GLOBE Observer: Trees.
The GLOBE Observer: Trees tool guides users on how to use their smartphone to report local tree height measurements that complement NASA satellite observations. Scientists use this data to study Earth, carbon ecosystems (trees take up carbon from the atmosphere) and the global environment.
