GLOBE to Remain at the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR)
The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR) has been selected to host the GLOBE Implementation Office (GIO). Under the leadership of Dr. Tony Murphy, the GIO will coordinate and support the implementation of GLOBE worldwide, working closely with the overall GLOBE program management at NASA Headquarters, and the GLOBE data and information system at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. Third Annual GLOBE Calendar Art Competition
It's time for our third annual student art competition! To illustrate the 2015 GLOBE calendar, the theme is See Globally, Act Locally: How GLOBE Connects to Earth Observing Satellites. We invite GLOBE students to submit original art that demonstrates the benefits of Earth observing satellite missions to their school and/or community.
Entries are due by 17 October 2014.

Communications Update
The News Brief, GLOBE's online newsletter produced every two weeks since February 2012, will now become a monthly publication. Arriving in your email inbox in place of the mid-month issue will be an expanded Director's letter from Dr. Tony Murphy. His letter will include information for GLOBE partners, teachers and scientists and will be sent to everyone who has opted-in to receive email from GLOBE. Please remind your friends and colleagues that in order to receive the monthly newsletter and Tony's monthly letter they must Opt-In on the GLOBE website.
Newsletters will continue to reside in the GLOBE online archive. Director's Letters will be placed there as well.
GLOBE and NGSS
To support U.S. schools, districts, and states in the adoption of the new national science standards, the GLOBE U.S. Partner Community developed "A Guide to Connections between The GLOBE Program and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)" through the support of a grant from the National Science Foundation. This guide connects GLOBE protocols and resources to the NGSS Framework and can be used as a resource for digital curriculum platforms. Want to get engaged in GLOBE Field Campaigns during 2014-15?
The Global Precipitation Measurement Field Campaign
Now, through July 2015, schools worldwide are encouraged to take rain gauge measurements during the first week of every month. Research questions to be considered are:
- How is precipitation affecting water availability, droughts, storms and floods?
- How does my data compare to the data collected by data precipitation measuring sensors onboard the GPM satellites?

Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP)
The NASA Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) Mission scheduled for launch in November 2014 will be delayed and is now being scheduled for sometime between mid-December 2014 and late February 2015. NASA expects to approve a new launch date in late September. The product release to the public will still follow the plan to release Beta L1 products 6 months after launch, Beta L2-L4 product and validated L1 product 9 months after launch, and validated L2-L4 products 15 months after launch. The Aerosols Field Campaign with Dr. Danielle De Staerke and GLOBE Europe and Eurasia.
GLOBE students across the Europe and Eurasia Region have been focused on atmosphere since the Aerosols Campaign started in September 2013. Now the opportunity to participate has been expanded to students worldwide. For more information, see the Aerosols Campaign.
Further campaigns throughout 2014-2015 inviting your engagement: The Surface Temperature Field Campaign with Dr. Kevin Cjazkowski of Toledo, Ohio, that will occur in December 2014; an El Nino Field Campaign (currently in the planning stages led by Claudia Caro Vera of Peru); a Mosquito Investigation in December 2014 and a Mt. Kilimanjaro Xpedition scheduled for September 2015.
