Dr. Michael Notaro Receives Public Science Engagement Award from the University of Wisconsin-Madison
The GLOBE community extends congratulations to Dr. Michael Notaro, U.S. GLOBE Partner at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, for his recent award for public science engagement by the University of Wisconsin–Madison. Faculty and academic staff are recognized with the Bassam Z. Shakhashiri Public Science Engagement Award for excellence in engaging the public in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) research. Dr. Notaro was this year’s academic staff awardee, particularly for his efforts to engage youth and educators using the GLOBE Program.
Dr. Notaro has shared with the GLOBE community in recent years specifically about GLOBE-inspired STEM camps for autistic middle and high school students.
During the 2024 North American Regional Meeting, Dr. Notaro presented GLOBE as a Tool to Support Neurodiverse Learners. He highlighted the three camp opportunities that broaden science opportunities for autistic youth through a camp that supports inquisitiveness in a non-threatening, non-traditional learning environment.
Dr. Notaro’s work was also highlighted — with other GLOBE opportunities — at the 2024 American Geophysical Union conference in a presentation “For MY Audience, It Looks Like This...” The Foundations of Environmental Data Collection and Student Research through a Variety of GLOBE Programming.
Congratulations, Dr. Notaro!
