GLOBE Croatia Educators Mark 25th Year from Their First Research Project
In 2023 educators at the Secondary School, Mate Blazina Labin (Labin, Croatia) marked the 25th year of their work in The GLOBE Program, as well as the 25th year of their first research project. So far, they have completed and published 33 of them, with the latest under construction in the jubilee year.
From the first day, they also participated in the International Virtual Science Symposium (IVSS), publishing 12 projects within it.
Unfortunately, due to the reconstruction of the GLOBE website projects published before 2012 are not visible on the website. All their projects over 25 years can be seen in the image below.
"In 2003 and 2008, as members of the Croatian national team, we presented our projects at GLOBE Learning Expeditions in ŠIBENIK, Croatia and CAPE TOWN, South Africa. In 2010 for the project "Let Our Istria Shine, But Not At Night!" we got a GLOBE Star," says Olivera Tadić, GLOBE Croatia Educator.
"Working on research projects is a great pleasure, both for us teachers and for our students, who point out that this way of learning gives them pleasure because they are involved in teamwork, collaborate with professors and collaboration with scientists from all over the world, which enables them to acquire knowledge and developing own abilities."
Since their projects are most often related to the condition and environmental protection of their local community, they have been successfully cooperating with the administration and business entities in their community for many years.
"We regularly publish all results on the school's website and local media in order to encourage the population to think about the importance of monitoring the condition and protecting the environment... We wonder if we are the school with the most projects done!"
