GLOBE Europe and Eurasia: Students Change the World for the Better at the 2025 GLOBE Student Conference

Two days of discovery, inspiration, and networking—the annual GLOBE Student Conference held 22–23 May 2025 in Židlochovice, Czech Republic, was the biggest yet. A record-breaking 53 school teams from the host country plus Slovakia, Slovenia, Ireland, and Ukraine came together to share how students are tackling real-world challenges through hands-on research.

Transforming Science Education Through Student Inquiry

The conference was hosted by Elementary School Židlochovice, a pioneer when it comes about inquiry-based science education. Here, this innovative teaching method is a core part of the curriculum, mandatory for all sixth graders. With a modern campus and a passionate team of local teachers and students, the GLOBE Czech team pulled off an event that welcomed over 300 participants.

What Were the Students Investigating?

This year’s projects covered a wide and fascinating range of topics. Students tested air and water quality, explored biodiversity in school gardens, studied soil composition, tackled the issue of microplastics, and much more. The takeaway? When young people are encouraged to ask their own questions and seek their own answers, they come up with surprisingly powerful solutions to local and global challenges.

A special highlight of the conference was the opportunity for student teams to receive expert feedback from leading Czech scientists.

A Marketplace of Ideas and Expert-Led Workshops

The afternoon featured the Marketplace of Student Activities, where visitors had a chance to engage directly with students’ projects through practical, interactive sessions. On the second day, students and educators dove deeper through expert-led workshops on topics ranging from robotics and water purity to biodiversity and air monitoring. Collage of students presenting, participating in workshops and the marketplace.
