GLOBE Nigeria: GLOBE Students to Share Data with National Malaria Elimination Programme
GLOBE Nigeria, under the Federal Ministry of Education, is collaborating with the National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) under Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare to support malaria elimination efforts across the country.
Through this collaboration, students will use the GLOBE Observer Mosquito Habitat Mapper to identify and report mosquito larvae habitats. The goal is to help eliminate mosquito breeding sites while empowering students to serve as agents of change through advocacy, community sensitization, and public awareness.
On 9–10 March 2026, NMEP organized a multisectoral engagement meeting to explore opportunities for collaboration. The GLOBE Nigeria team was represented by Mrs. Aminulai Modupe, GLOBE Nigeria Country Coordinator, and Mr. Mohammed Salihu, Deputy Coordinator. Discussions focused on using the GLOBE Observer Mosquito Habitat Mapper to support malaria elimination activities and strengthen student-led advocacy.
As part of this effort, the GLOBE Nigeria team has written to schools participating in GLOBE nationwide, encouraging GLOBE club coordinators and school desk officers (schools’ main GLOBE contacts) to engage in local malaria elimination clubs to eliminate mosquito larvae habitats within their communities. GLOBE area coordinators across Nigeria’s states, along with school desk officers, will share students’ collected data with NMEP to help advance malaria elimination efforts within the country. The program looks forward to seeing more students upload mosquito larvae data through the GLOBE Observer app and contribute to healthier, mosquito-free communities across Nigeria.
