Great Things are Happening in Texas!
There are now 41 GLOBE Partnerships in the state of Texas. Texas has a very unique science education organization called the Texas Regional Collaboratives for Excellence in Science Teaching (TRC) that provides sustained and high intensity professional development to K-12 teachers of science across the state. Housed at The University of Texas at Austin, this state office is also a GLOBE Partner and will serve as the Texas TRC GLOBE Coordination site.

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area Hosts GLOBE Field Campaign
In Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania, on the grounds of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (DEWA), students, teachers, scientists and park personnel gathered recently to evaluate land-cover and satellite images of the area for the purpose of verifying the accuracy of NASA's satellite maps. Accurate analysis of land-cover provides clues to the environmental effects of urban development in the area and this day-long field campaign focused on impacts to National Parks in the Upper Delaware Basin.

What do GLOBE and the National Geographic Society have in common? Plenty!
Together, we share a mission to increase knowledge of the natural world, to support education and teaching, and to instill the compelling need to protect and conserve the diversity of life on this planet. That's why GLOBE is a proud member of My Wonderful World, a National Geographic-led campaign to increase geographic literacy in schools, at home, and in the community.

Nigeria Becomes an Important Member of GLOBE in Africa
Nigeria has taken a giant step forward with implementing GLOBE and joining the GLOBE Africa community! During 22-25 August 2006, over 80 participants attended the first GLOBE Nigeria Trainer Workshop. In addition to teachers and administrators from over 30 schools, representatives from Federal and State Governments, Nigerian Meteorological Service, World Meteorological Organization, universities, and a United Nations organization called the African Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education (ARCSSTE-E) participated in the event.

Enhancing GLOBE through Partnerships
We all have experienced a few outstanding teachers who made a difference in our lives, teachers who were able to motivate us to do our best, and to instill a love of learning that continued beyond the classroom. Good teachers engage students through passion for the subject, creativity in the classroom and constant encouragement. They use a wide variety of methods, experiences, assignments and materials to be sure that their students are achieving cognitive objectives. In many schools, it is GLOBE activities that provide teachers with the scientific tools they need to teach students about the environment in which they live, but the GLOBE classroom becomes most dynamic when the teaching of science enhances the development of a diversity of skills.

GLOBE Alumni
One of the turning points of the 2005 Annual Conference in Prague was when Martin Pentson, (Estonia) and Tomas Tunkl, (Czech Republic) explained why they had initiated their GLOBE Alumni organizations; "We didn't want to be cut off from GLOBE just because we had graduated high school." This moment marked the beginning of an effort to find out if a similar desire existed among alumni in other regions.

GLOBE and Art
Science and art have a definite connection — imagine studying prehistoric creatures without being able to see drawings or sketches; or studying contrails in an area that experiences no flyovers by jets; or studying the climate of Polar Regions from the desert with only text. These examples would be reality without the inclusion of art, whether in the form of drawings, paintings, sketches, and photographs.
