Asia-Pacific Mission Mosquito Campaign 2025: Empowering Citizen Science for Regional Health

Artwork of children holding tablets and a mosquito in the background. The GLOBE Asia-Pacific Regional Coordination Office has officially launched the 2025 Mission Mosquito Campaign, a citizen science initiative running from 1 July to 20 August 2025, uniting students, educators, alumni, and citizen scientists from across the region.

This year’s campaign invites participants from all 19 GLOBE countries in the region to monitor and report mosquito breeding sites using the NASA-developed GLOBE Observer Mosquito Habitat Mapper App. By contributing real-time observations, students not only strengthen their science skills but also support public health research related to mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue, malaria, and Zika.

The campaign is offering virtual training webinars, mentorship, and a student research showcase to registrants. Participants will gain hands-on field science experience, contribute to regional data, and have the opportunity to present their findings to scientists and the GLOBE community.

The campaign supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals in education, health, and environmental change. Participation is free and open to GLOBE schools and citizen scientists throughout the Asia and Pacific region and beyond.
