Ever wonder what it might be like to work for NASA? This year at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Annual Meeting (kind of like a huge IVSS as it is virtual this year), NASA shared a wealth of resources to help anyone interested in working with or for NASA to "find their place"! Take a look at this site and explore the myriad of amazing opportunities and programs that exist for a wide variety of different audiences. These programs range from research and learning opportunities to being engaged by being a part of The GLOBE Program! So check out the " Find Your Place " ...

Two weeks ago, I attended the ESRI Ocean, Weather and Climate (OWC) Forum. This Forum featured over 30 speakers across two half-days in the forms of lightning talks, keynote speakers and software demos. It was illuminating to see such a wide range of uses and projects with ESRI’s ArcGIS software within the Ocean, Weather and Climate realms. The demos shared some advanced mapping and Geographic Information System (GIS) opportunities within the ArcGIS Pro software. ArcGIS Pro is ESRI’s desktop paid application and has a ...
This collaborative webinar was planned and presented by three NASA Science Activation Earth science awards and the GLOBE Implementation Office. Each group shared a broad range of NASA-sponsored opportunities and resources to connect students to investigating our Earth system using NASA and GLOBE data. The recording is available on-demand https://www.globe.gov/web/mission-mosquito/overview/webinars/archived-webinars A list of resources shared by the presenters is available at https://bit.ly/3cwCkhz
The goal is to support teachers and students to develop and ...

Did you know that NASA satellite data is being used to predict, monitor, and respond to vector-borne and water-related disease around the world? Imagine the value of using both GLOBE ground-based data; such as precipitation, vegetation, soil moisture, surface temperature, and humidity; to help us better understand disease! As you think about what you might like to research for the next school year, consider using NASA satellite data along with your GLOBE data to investigate various aspects of water-related and vector-borne disease. You can learn about the research conducted ...

A new study using NASA's Global Precipitation Measuremen t (GPM) mission data entitled " Water vapor and soil moisture can predict afternoon rainfall " was recently published in the Geophysical Research Letters journal. Many of us who use GLOBE protocols have wondered if we could use our data to help us answer some of the most challenging questions related to weather. This study might give some great ideas to students, teachers, and citizen scientists around the world to see if they can find similar results.
This article explains that the effect that water vapor has ...

You have submitted GLOBE Observer Mosquito Habitat Mapper observations, but are still unsure how to access and analyze that data? This blog outlines the steps to download data into a spreadsheet, describes the data found in each column, and discusses what to do with the two sets of latitude and longitude data associated with each observation.
Download Data
First you will need to download your data using GLOBE’s Advanced Data Access Tool (ADAT) . This link also has video and text tutorials to get you started. Once you open ADAT, it prompts you to select filters, which will ...

I bet you would be surprised to learn that since we began to collect " Mosquito Habitat Mappe r" data (5/29/2017), we have had over 20,915 observations submitted! Think about how significant that number is for a tool that has only been available for less than three years!
As many of us who live in the northern hemisphere begin to see signs of spring arriving- robins, crocuses, leaf buds on the trees, and warmer weather- we know that we will also see adult mosquitoes before too long. While there are over 3,500 species of mosquitoes, only about 100 of those species are actually ...
