GLOBE Students Battle Pollution and Join the 2010 Live Earth Run for Water
The month of April marked GLOBE's 15th birthday and served as a reminder to the GLOBE community of the importance of Earth and its resources. Earth's gifts are often taken for granted by those to whom they are readily available, while deeply longed for by those who are less fortunate. Through World Water Day activities in March, students investigated the global water crisis and learned how to turn their awareness into action to improve these issues.  >>

Asia-Pacific Region Boosts Training Initiatives and Student Inquiry Projects
Twenty representatives from the Asia Pacific region, consisting of Government Officials together with GLOBE Country Coordinators, Teachers, Scientists and NGO's, met in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on 1-3 April 2010, to plan future student inquiry activities for the region. Countries represented from the region included Bangladesh, Fiji, India, Nepal, New Zealand, Palau, and Thailand.  >>

GLOBE Europe-Eurasia Region Plans for Climate Research Campaign
On 1-6 June 2010, 42 representatives from 22 European countries met in Ohrid, Macedonia, to discuss regional governance, hold elections of new officers, update one another on national implementation activities and GLOBE student research underway, and begin preparation for GLOBE's upcoming climate research events.  >>

GLOBE Iowa 7th Graders Continue Volga River Research Project
United States GLOBE Teacher Bruce Huckins' 7th grade class, at West Central Middle School in Maynard, Iowa, is conducting the second year of the Volga River Project. In 2008, Huckins' class created the project by measuring the Transparency, Nitrate, pH, Dissolved Oxygen, and Water Temperature of the Volga River four times throughout the year, beginning in November. Huckins' current class decided to continue the project and repeat the same tests every month starting in November 2009.  >>

Students Get Their Hands Wet for World Water Day 2010
Water, one of the most essential elements for our survival, makes up approximately 71 percent of Earth's surface and two-thirds of the human body. Therefore, it is important to be aware of the quality of the ecosystems this imperative resource is obtained from. Participation by GLOBE students in the U.N. sponsored World Water Day allowed GLOBE students from 67 schools in 14 countries to investigate water sources in their local areas by engaging in learning activities such as The pH Game, Water Detectives, Hydrology Site Definition and conducting the GLOBE pH Protocol, among others, and, to gather data for long-term research projects.  >>

Senegal Team Successfully Prepares GLOBE Students to Become Tomorrow's Leaders
The Concours Général, a national student achievement test administered annually for the past 30 years in Senegalese national territory, functions as a nationwide "General Contest" for high school students. During their last two years of high school, students between the ages of 17 and 20 prepare for this test to compete in the areas of biology, mathematics, physical chemistry, languages, history, and geography.  >>

GLOBE Students Make a Splash in the Big Apple
Science Cluster teacher Fran Bosi took a leap and jumped in to discover what lurked under the water in a local pond. Employing the GLOBE Freshwater Macroinvertebrate protocol, and working with Peter Schmidt, Associate Director of GLOBE NY Metro, Bosi led two fifth grade classes, from the Alexander Graham Bell School in Bayside Queens, on an investigation involving animals living in a pond at Alley Pond Park.  >>
