More Than 2,250 Data Points Submitted During the GLOBE Africa Tree Measurement Intensive Observation Period (IOP)

The GLOBE Africa Tree Measurement Intensive Observation Period (IOP) brought together all six GLOBE regions in collecting data from 1 September to 31 October to help Northern Arizona University (NAU) scientists advance their "Engaging Citizen Scientists for Inclusive Earth Systems Monitoring" research. This research engages citizen scientists in collecting data on tree height, diameter, and species. Data submitted by the GLOBE community will provide ground validation to improve NASA’s Earth Systems Monitoring GEDI (Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation) L4a biomass product.

Together, the GLOBE regions submitted a total of 2,267 data points:

  • Africa – 624
  • Asia and Pacific – 154
  • Europe and Eurasia – 187
  • Latin America and Caribbean – 329
  • North America – 842
  • Near East and North Africa – 131

Thank you to everyone who contributed data to this IOP.
