GLOBE Nigeria Held the 4th Annual Nigeria Science Symposium
GLOBE Nigeria held the 4th Annual Nigeria Science Symposium and Workshop for selected public and private schools nationwide. The events took place on 28–30 October 2025 at the Federal Government College Keffi, Nasarawa State, , with the theme “Climate Investigating: Understanding the Earth as System.”
A total of 36 participants, including students, educators, and state coordinators from the Ministry of Education, attended the symposium from across eight states: Ekiti state, Edo state, Niger State, Cross River state, Zamfara state, Katsina state, Jigawa state, and Benue state. Also in attendance were Nigeria Federal Ministry of Education officers, the country coordinator, and GLOBE judges.
At the event, students presented their project write-ups while educators and state coordinators had the opportunity to participate in a hands-on activities workshop on atmosphere, hydrosphere, and pedosphere using GLOBE protocols.
Certificates of excellence and prizes, including tablets, were given to students who placed first, second, and third, and all participating students received branded GLOBE t-shirts and certificates of participation.
Through YLACES grant funding, accompanying teachers and state coordinators were given digital thermo-hygrometers and digital soil thermometers, as well as microscope lenses and macro microscopic lenses for mosquito larva observations.
“The YLACES grants made it possible for us to do a GLOBE workshop using the equipment granted to take air temperature, surface temperature, soil temperature and humidity,” said Nigetia Aminuli Modupe, Country Coordinator for Nigeria. “Our teachers pledge to continue using the equipment to make observations and upload data to the GLOBE website.”
