Greetings to all,

In Peru, we are aiming to work with wooden Stevenson screens or meteorological shelters. However, we are facing a problem with the availability of equipment to record air temperature and relative humidity. There is limited supply of instruments and equipment in the country.

To measure air temperature and relative humidity, we have only two types of instruments available in the Peruvian market: an alcohol thermometer and a digital thermo-hygrometer, such as the one shown in the image.

Our question is: What is the correct procedure to follow for recording temperature using the Stevenson screen or meteorological shelter with either the alcohol thermometer and/or the digital thermo-hygrometer?

Can we use the digital thermo-hygrometer to measure both temperature and humidity at the same time? Should the digital thermo-hygrometer remain inside the shelter all day, every day, in order to record maximum and minimum temperatures? What considerations should we take into account for recording relative humidity? Do we need to use two digital thermo-hygrometers—one for recording temperature and another for relative humidity? How should we calibrate this digital thermo-hygrometer?

The GLOBE Teacher guide is not clear on these points, and the instruments it describes are different from those available in Peru. Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brXca2z0OUA
