GLOBE Cup Challenge Midway Report
Citizen scientists across the world have been invited by the GLOBE Program to collect environmental data where the world plays soccer (football)! During the World Cup — from 11 June to 19 July — participants in regional teams are visiting local soccer (football) fields, parks, schoolyards, or anywhere people play to take observations of air temperature, surface temperature, and land cover.
Now halfway through the GLOBE Cup Challenge, let’s look at the scores. Currently, North America is the region with the most team members: 30. The Europe and Eurasia region leads in land cover observations with 42 submissions, and the Near East and North Africa region leads in two of the three observation categories, with 470 air temperature submissions and 352 surface temperature submissions!
