There is now a SMAP L3 Data Layer on the GLOBE Data Map. Students participating in the Soil Moisture Field Campaign (which began 1 October 2015 and will run through 30 April 2016) can choose to look at specific SMAP data for a particular day – and then compare it to their school data.  >>

Why Would Scientists Join the GLOBE International Scientists’ Network? Find Out!
The GLOBE International Scientists' Network (GISN) is an international network of scientists that work with GLOBE students around the world conducting science. Scientists mentor students and teachers, present scientific ideas, and/or collaborate on scientific research. Each relationship between a scientist and a GLOBE school is unique, and is determined by the scientist and the school. This relationship can be established in different ways.  >>

The United States GLOBE Regional Science Fair Leadership Team is hosting an informational webinar on Wednesday, 20 January 2016, at 1:00 p.m. MST (3:00 p.m. EST). The goal of this webinar, "Writing Conclusions using the CER Framework," is to help teachers and students prepare entries for the U.S. Regional Science Fairs and the 2016 GLOBE International Virtual Science Fair.  >>

GLOBE/SMAP Soil Moisture Field Campaign 1-Year Highlights Webinar: 02 February
The next GLOBE/SMAP Soil Moisture Field Campaign webinar will be held on Tuesday, 02 February at 4:00 p.m. ET (9:00 p.m. UTC). The webinar is entitled: “1 Year of the SMAP Mission and Global Shout-Outs to all the GLOBE schools/teams collecting SMAP soil moisture data." New NASA Video – GPM 2015: One Year of Storms
This new video offers a look back (via data animation) at the storms captured by the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission in 2015. The GPM mission is an international network of satellites that provide the next-generation global observations of rain and snow. Through participating in GPM events and contests, GLOBE students are currently learning how a NASA mission – and how satellite information – can improve our knowledge of Earth.  >>

GLOBE/SMAP Block Pattern Data Information and Revised Data Report
In response to inquiries regarding data not showing up on the GLOBE Visualization Map under the SMAP Block Pattern layer, The GLOBE Program would like to get the word out that participating schools/teams must be inputting the data via the SMAP Block Pattern Soil Moisture Protocol. If another protocol is used, the data will not show up in the SMAP layer on the map. In addition, a revised data report has been issued.  >>
