Our GLOBE Poster
Clean drinking water is becoming harder to find on our planet. One of the consequences of urbanization is the amount of material that is finding its way into our streams and waterways. In this study, Mahopac High School students placed three floating islands in a sediment basin in front of the school to determine the efficacy of improving the water quality. Data was collected from pre and post pond streams, sites before and after the islands were put in place. Data indicates the islands may be having an effect on the water temperature.

Why did you choose to measure temperature? What other hydrologic measurements could tell us more about the water quality?
