Tras tres años de trabajo colaborativo, cerró la Campaña “Árboles dentro de LAC”

El 18 de diciembre se realizó, a través de la plataforma Zoom, el último webinar de la Campaña “Árboles dentro de LAC”, marcando el cierre de una iniciativa regional del Programa GLOBE que, durante tres años de implementación (2023–2025), promovió la ciencia ciudadana, la investigación estudiantil y el desarrollo profesional docente en América Latina y el Caribe.

La campaña logró integrar educación, investigación y participación comunitaria, fortaleciendo la alfabetización científica y destacando la importancia de los árboles en ecosistemas urbanos y naturales de la región.

A lo largo de la campaña se desarrollaron herramientas y recursos educativos y científicos que permitieron a docentes y estudiantes generar datos científicos de alta calidad, entre ellos:

  • Períodos de Observación Intensiva (IOPs)

  • Webinarios mensuales

  • Uso de la aplicación GLOBE Observer

  • Tutoriales multilingües

  • Podcasts educativos

  • Calendarios ambientales

  • Concursos temáticos

Un modelo regional de ciencia ciudadana

La Campaña “Árboles dentro de LAC” representa:
✓ Un modelo exitoso de ciencia ciudadana estudiantil
✓ Crecimiento sostenido y escalable
✓ Integración efectiva entre educación e investigación
✓ Una valiosa contribución al conocimiento ambiental global
✓ Fortalecimiento de capacidades científicas en América Latina y el Caribe

Durante el webinar de cierre también se presentó la actividad “Detectives de Datos GLOBE: Uso de datos para explorar el cambio en tu entorno local”, y se compartieron los temas, pautas y materiales del VSS 2026, con el objetivo de mantener informada y activa a la comunidad educativa.

El encuentro contó con la participación de 24 docentes de Argentina, Brasil, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Paraguay, Perú y Uruguay.

Desde la Oficina Regional de GLOBE LAC agradecemos profundamente a toda la comunidad de América Latina y el Caribe por su compromiso, participación y apoyo a lo largo de estos años. Sin el trabajo colectivo de docentes, estudiantes y coordinadores, esta campaña no habría sido posible.

 

 

After Three Years of Collaborative Work, the “Trees within LAC” Campaign Comes to a Close

On December 18, the final webinar of the “Trees within LAC” Campaign was held via Zoom, marking the conclusion of a regional initiative of The GLOBE Program that, over three years of implementation (2023–2025), promoted citizen science, student research, and teacher professional development across Latin America and the Caribbean.

The campaign successfully integrated education, research, and community participation, strengthening scientific literacy and highlighting the importance of trees in both urban and natural ecosystems throughout the region.

Throughout the campaign, a wide range of educational and scientific tools and resources were developed to build scientific and educational capacity among teachers and students, enabling the collection of high-quality scientific data, including:

  • Monthly webinars

  • Use of the GLOBE Observer App

  • Multilingual tutorials

  • Educational podcasts

  • Environmental calendars

  • Thematic contests

A Regional Model of Citizen Science

The “Trees within LAC” Campaign represents:

✓ Sustained and scalable growth
✓ Effective integration of education and research
✓ A valuable contribution to global environmental knowledge
✓ Strengthened scientific capacity in Latin America and the Caribbean

During the closing webinar, the learning activity “GLOBE Data Detectives: Using Data to Explore Change in Your Local Environment” was also presented, along with the themes, guidelines, and materials for the 2026 VSS, ensuring the community remains informed and engaged.

The webinar brought together 24 teachers from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay.

The GLOBE LAC Regional Coordination Office extends its sincere thanks to the entire Latin American and Caribbean community for their commitment, participation, and continued support throughout these years.
