New Data Collection eTrainings Now Available!

We are excited to launch GLOBE’s new Data Collection eTraining! Data Collection eTrainings are now available for a selection of Atmosphere, Biosphere, Hydrosphere, and Pedosphere protocol field guides. Data Collection eTrainings focus on preparing you to collect quality data and enter those data into the GLOBE database.

And unlike our traditional training, you don’t need to download large files to your computer or phone. The entire training is on the GLOBE Network platform, which was used for the 2025 GLOBE Annual Meeting.

Each Data Collection eTraining includes:

  • An Introduction to the Earth’s sphere
  • An overview for the selected data collection training
  • Information to know before going into the field
  • Procedures to follow in the field and in the lab
  • Recommendations to ensure quality data collection
  • A short assessment to check your knowledge
  • Step-by-step instructions for data entry using the new GLOBE Observer data entry system

Passing the assessment at the end of each eTraining will earn you a virtual protocol badge.

We will be releasing further eTrainings over the coming months. Please check GLOBE.gov, the monthly GLOBE News Brief, and your inbox for updates.

Where Can I Find the Data Collection eTrainings?
The Data Collection eTrainings can be found in the GLOBE Network platform. This is the same virtual platform used for the 2025 GLOBE Annual Meeting. If you attended the Annual Meeting, you should already have login credentials for the platform.

If you need to sign up for a new account, visit the GLOBE Network landing page and click on JOIN. For ease in accessing GLOBE materials, you should consider using the same login credentials you use for GLOBE.gov or GLOBE Observer for Mighty.

Will I Still Have Access to the Original Trainings?
The original protocol trainings (downloadable slides and assessment test) will continue to be housed on GLOBE.gov.
