GLOBE and Career Technical Education (CTE) collaborate.

GLOBE and Career Technical Education (CTE) collaborate to produce ArtAct: Youth Symbiotic Cities. This year, a chemistry class in the Visual and Performing Arts Academy at Skyline High School in Oakland, California, used GLOBE water quality data to create visuals representing blue and green spaces in Oakland. The student projects were developed in response to the Brower Center ’s annual themed youth show. The Academy’s chemistry educator, Conor Carroll, guided his students in pondering the significance of blue and green spaces in their community and how these areas evoke subjective experiences. He demonstrated how to combine scientific data with personal experiences in a creative process that enabled students to share their unique stories. The result? Students created comics brimming with personality highlighting the importance of caring for our parks and waterways. Carroll noted that students appreciated having a gallery space to showcase their work and emphasized the significance of their voices being meaningful.  (GLOBE has served as an Academy Partner at Skyline since 2011 through the Green Energy Academy. This is the first year the Visual and Performing Arts Academy has used GLOBE protocols with their academy students.)
