Contrail Investigation

image of jet with contrailsResearchers at NASA Langley Research Center need your help!

We are looking for teams of junior researchers to make observations of contrails. Contrails are high-level clouds formed in the presence of airplanes and can tell us more about conditions in our atmosphere.

To participate, we ask teams to do the following:

  • Submit cloud observations to GLOBE and/or GLOBE Observer.
  • Observe planes flying at altitudes of 25,000 feet or higher and identify the type of contrail(s) formed, if any. If no contrails are formed, include this in your observation.

To help get you started, the NASA GLOBE Clouds team will virtually connect with your classroom and train team members to make cloud and contrail observations. We will also provide your team with resources to assist you in making observations.

Become a GLOBE Clouds Contrail Junior Research Team today and track airplanes and contrails in your area.
