Did you know that clouds have names? As the title of the GLOBE Elementary book says, clouds do have names. Those names describe the altitude and the appearance of the cloud. Cumulus means pile in Latin, so the name is used to describe low puffy clouds in the sky. Cirrus means locks of hair, and is used to describe those thin wispy clouds found high up in the sky. The big announcement this month was that we made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Student Research Symposia. We have some other activities that we will working on instead, which will support the IVSS and SRS into the future! It snowed at my house in Michigan last week, the first week of December 2020. I love snow and I really like to see how snow affects the surface temperature. Between 60 and 80 mm of snow was on the ground. I took surface temperature observations as part of the Urban Heat Island Student Research Campaign. Did you know that your pace is a vital part of taking observations of tree height and land cover? A pace is a unit of length consisting either of one normal walking step, or of a double step, returning to the same foot, your dominant foot. WOOHOO! It’s time to celebrate! The NASA GLOBE Observer just had its 25,000th citizen science tree height observation. The observation came in on November 30, 2020 from Corvallis, Oregon. Since the release of the NASAGO Trees Tool on March 26, 2019, there has been an average of 40 tree height observations taken per day across the GLOBE Program participant countries.

Noctilucent clouds or polar mesospheric clouds are the highest occurring cloud types (form about 50 miles or 80 Km above the Earth's surface). The Chang'e-5 robotic mission landed a few hours ago on lunar soil and aims to collect samples of rock and dust to bring them back to Earth.
The venture targets a site called Mons Rümker, a volcanic complex in a nearby region known as Oceanus Procellarum.The spacecraft's landing module should spend the next few days examining its surroundings and gathering materials from the lunar surface.The intention is to pack about 2 kilos of materials, which will then be sent to a module that can transport the samples to Earth.

Even with the pandemic, participation the campaign has been good. Although the number of schools participating and the total number of observations was down from last year, it was still a nice number of each. So far this fall (Northern Hemisphere) spring (Southern Hemisphere) there have been over 3,500 observations from 135 sites (70 schools) across the world. Please see the list below. Two weeks ago, I attended the ESRI Ocean, Weather and Climate (OWC) Forum. This Forum featured over 30 speakers across two half-days in the forms of lightning talks, keynote speakers and software demos. It was illuminating to see such a wide range of uses and projects with ESRI’s ArcGIS software within the Ocean, Weather and Climate realms. Spent quite a bit of time working on upgrading the software which runs the www.globe.gov website.
The new environment went live on 11/16/2020. Although it may not look too different, behind the scenes a lot has changed. It also gives us some new capabilities and features in a more secure environment. We'll be advertising and using these new features in the time ahead. Hope all works well for you!

Glad to be here. Iam a science teacher in Israel we are located in a small town called Gedera.
The school name is Rimonim which mean in hebrew Pomegranates, and offcourse we have the trees. every year we observe the fruits bloming/ for us those fruits have a Religious significance.
