Sri Lankan GLOBE Club Develops Tools for Outreach and Collaboration

The official Web site of the GLOBE Club of Maliyadeva College in Kurunegala, Sri Lanka, was ceremoniously launched 5 December 2007 by Mr. R.M.M. Rathnayake, the Principal of the College. With guidance from the Ministry of Education and other GLOBE Clubs in Sri Lanka, the Maliyadeva GLOBE Club is the first to launch a Web site dedicated to furthering information about GLOBE activities in Sri Lanka.

The Web site contains information about the history of GLOBE and the foundation of the College GLOBE
Society. There you will find information about Society officers, links to local environmental projects and collaborative activities such as the recent Thailand GLE, with suggestions about how to become involved.

The Web site provides a link to the online "Arana" magazine, also produced by the Maliyadeva GLOBE Club. A wonderful example of GLOBE across the curriculum, students use poetry to express their observations of the environment, writing in both the national language, Sinhala, as well as in English. Another link on the site will take you to "Knowledge Base," the online center for articles pertaining to GLOBE study sites and protocols including soil, hydrology, land cover and atmosphere.

We encourage students and teachers to access this great student resource. Please Visit www.mcgc.tk, the official Web site of the GLOBE Club of Maliyadeva College! We congratulate the GLOBE Club for their innovative approach to spreading information about GLOBE in Sri Lanka.
