WEBINAR | GLOBE Observer Connect: December 2024
Please join the GLOBE Observer team on 8 pm ET on 12 December (1:00 am UTC 13 December) for a GLOBE Observer Connect conversation with Callie Davis. During her summer internship with Dixie National Forest, Callie used the GLOBE Observer Land Cover tool to recreate a series of historic photos taken by her parents, who worked for the USDA Forest Service in the 1990s to survey the land. She will share some of the changes she observed.  >>

Workshop: Introduction to GLOBE Protocols

First meeting January 7th– 90 minutes         Time frame: 6:00pm to 7:30pm EDT

These GLOBE training sessions will be offered to anyone interested in the GLOBE Program. Learning will be self-paced – learning what you want when you want. Participants can contact the training lead at any time for help or to have questions answered. The training lead will be able to monitor participant progress as they move through the eTraining modules. Participants will receive a GLOBE certificate at the end of their training to signify which protocol(s) they are trained in and the completion of that training. Participants can attend one or all of the sessions – no minimum number needed to get trained. Non-U.S. participants can attend any and all workshops but cannot received a certificate of training unless granted permission by their country coordinator. Reminder: anyone can download and use the GLOBE Observer app without special permission.

A minimum of 5 participants will be required to launch each training session. A maximum of 15 participants will be used to cap session size to insure a more personal atmosphere. If more than 15 participants register additional trainers and or training sessions can be added.

Successive meetings (meetings after the first meeting) will start with a Q & A period to review information presented the previous meeting (30 minutes) and then introduce new protocol information for the participants to take part in (60 minutes).

The initial GLOBE training session (January 7, 2025, 6:00pm to 7:30pm) will provide:

  • An introduction to the GLOBE Program
  • The four spheres of study (Atmosphere, Hydrosphere, Biosphere, Pedosphere)
  • Website navigation
  • eTraining modules (Atmosphere eTraining modules will be assigned for completion by the February 4th session.)
  • Specified eTraining modules must be completed to obtain GLOBE trained status
  • Teachers Guides – Elementary / Secondary levels
  • Introduction of the GLOBE Observer app – download and use
  • Retrieval / visualization of data sent to GLOBE database

Topics presented at the first session will be highlights of what can be done. More detailed information on each topic will be presented throughout the various training sessions.

Along with new protocol information each session will present activities for participants to try, suggestions on activities participants can develop - interactives, if a teacher – lesson plan development will be discussed along with teacher / student video development.
