2016 GLOBE International Virtual Science Fair

The GLOBE Program is pleased to announce the 2016 GLOBE International Virtual Science Fair! As part of GLOBE's 20th Anniversary celebration, we are asking GLOBE students to share their research with the world. The 2016 GLOBE International Virtual Science Fair takes place online, and GLOBE students from all GLOBE countries may participate.

Students are required to use GLOBE data in their projects. They can also collaborate with scientists of the GLOBE International Scientist Network (GISN). The Virtual Science Fair is a great opportunity for your students to practice the skills they've learned, use the data they and other GLOBE students have collected and downloaded to the GLOBE database, and focus their research on real-world issues.

Every project that is submitted will be hosted on www.globe.gov and qualified entries will be entered for a chance to receive a stipend to attend the 2016 GLOBE Annual Meeting. There is no limit to the number of entries per student or per school.

The deadline for submission of projects is 11 March 2016.

Awards will be announced on or before Earth Day, 22 April 2016.

General Guidelines

Student projects will be graded on a merit-based system and scored by GISN scientists. Projects will be awarded badges: for collaboration, community impact, connection to a local or network scientist, international connection, and engineering solutions. Each student project should include an abstract, a research report, a presentation (e.g. video, scientific poster, or narrated PowerPoint), and photo releases for all people appearing in the video. An important part of the scoring process includes entering and using GLOBE data. Specific guidelines will be announced in July 2015, but get your students thinking about ideas for the science fair now.

Resources For Teachers

You can show your students examples of projects submitted in 2012 and 2013. To help with the project, The GLOBE Program has ready-made resources for you to share with students, including the steps in the scientific process and how to create a student research report.
