Young Professionals for Agricultural Development Lists Funding Opportunities

Young Professional for Agricultural Development (YPARD) has created a list of available funding opportunities. YPARD is an international movement BY Young Professionals FOR Young Professionals for Agricultural Development. YPARD operates as a network; it is not a formalized institution.

YPARD members are encouraged to become active in their area, spread the news about YPARD to other young professionals, encourage a stronger voice of youth in their own organizations and share their views and ideas with other young professionals in the network.

The vision of this global on-line and off-line communication and discussion platform is sustainably improved livelihoods worldwide, where young professionals are proactively contributing to innovative agricultural development. Their mission is to serve as a global collective platform through which young professionals can realise their full potential and contribute proactively towards innovative agricultural development.

A few of the current funding opportunities include:

U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service -- Asian Elephant Conservation Fund 2016 (Deadline: 02 Nov 2015): As part of its program "Wildlife Without Borders," the USFWS makes grants for the conservation of selected wildlife species, including Asian elephants. Grants are for applied research, training, conservation management, community outreach, law enforcement, decreased human-wildlife conflicts, and other activities in conservation. Preference is for proposals that request less than $50 thousand (U.S.) and that are able to provide some amount of matching support.
UK Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) -- Commonwealth Scholarships 2016 (Deadline: 19 Nov 2015): The UK Department for International Development (DFID) funds the Commonwealth Scholarships for master's and PhD studies in the UK for citizens of developing Commonwealth countries. Scholarships are awarded annually across all subjects, with priority for applications that demonstrate strong relevance to development. There is a nominating agency for Commonwealth Scholarships in each Commonwealth country, with contact details provided in the announcement. Inquiries about the scholarships should be directed to this agency. The application deadline is 19 November 2015.
Morris Animal Foundation -- Wildlife Health and Welfare 2016 (Deadline: 18 Nov 2015): The Morris Animal Foundation supports research on animal health and welfare, including wildlife/exotics. The Foundation invites proposals in several categories (i.e., established investigator; first award; fellowship training; pilot study). The application deadline for wildlife/exotics is 18 November 2015. (Note: The Foundation also manages a wildlife rapid response fund that has no calendar deadlines.)
University of California at Davis -- LEAP Fellowships for Agricultural Research at U.S. Universities (Deadline: 02 Dec 2015): The Norman E. Borlaug Leadership Enhancement in Agriculture Program (Borlaug LEAP) offers fellowships for graduate students from developing countries for agricultural research at universities in the USA. The program currently invites applications from citizens of USAID-assisted countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Each research project is coordinated by a university in the student's home country, a university in the USA, and a mentor in the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). The next application deadline is 02 December 2015.
École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) -- FLASH Research with Brazil and India 2015-2016 (Deadline: 31 Dec 2015): EPFL's Cooperation and Development Center announces FLASH Research Projects for Swiss partnerships with Brazil and India. FLASH aims to enable researchers to react quickly in case of exceptional events by setting up joint research projects. Among other categories, exceptional events that merit a flash response include floods, drought, landslides, and similar environmental disruptions. There is no restriction as to where the studied event takes place. The maximum funding per project is CHF 100 thousand. Applications will be accepted until the earmarked funds are fully allocated.
University of Basel -- Swiss-African Research Cooperation (SARECO) (Deadline: 31 Dec 2015): In partnership with Switzerland's State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI), the University of Basel manages SARECO to advance the collaboration between Swiss and African researchers. The current call focuses on "kick-starting" grants for exchange visits, joint seminars, and joint workshops. The eligible countries are Switzerland plus Cameroon, Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Senegal, Uganda, and Zambia. Grants will not exceed CHF 10 thousand. The application deadline is 31 December 2015.
