WEBINAR | The State of Trees: The Virtual Science Symposium (VSS) 2026: Looking at Your Ground-Based and Space-Based Tree Height and Land Cover Observations
Event Time: 6:00 pm UTC - 7:00 pm UTC
Location: Online
The 2026 GLOBE Virtual Science Symposium submission period for research projects is underway and ends on 30 January 2026. During the webinar, we will highlight ways in which students, and educators can compare their ground-based GLOBE tree height and land cover observations to the NASA space-based observations from multiple potential missions, including ICESat-2, GEDI, and Landsat. There will be a discussion on the importance of making sure that your observation locations match up to where the land cover and tree locations are in the real world (i.e., proper geolocation). Also, there will be a discussion on how to use several online tools that allow students to better (simplify) their observation matching and how their observations play a role in observing and documenting change over time and real-world events, like the California, USA, wildfires.
