The Amazing Eclipse (K-8)
For the first time in 38 years, a total solar eclipse will be visible in the continental United States. Join TMSC for this special one-day, hands-on program about the eclipse.
What is a solar eclipse? With fun, hands-on activities, students will explore the sun, light and shadow, and ultimately discover the science behind a total solar eclipse!
We have a new observatory fully equiped to safely view the Sun!
In the afternoon, students will learn how to view the eclipse safely and build their own viewing devices. Parents, siblings and friends are encouraged to join in on the fun from 2-4 p.m. when TMSC staff will provide eclipse viewing with telescopes and other equipment that is properly outfitted for solar viewing.
The eclipse will occur on August 21st between 1:25pm – 3:59pm EST, with maximum obstruction at 2:45pm.
Since Connecticut is outside the path of totality, we’ll be viewing the partial eclipse live as it passes overhead. We’ll also be linking up with NASA to view the total solar eclipse through their live feed.
Students should bring lunch and a snack; and dress for the weather and outdoor adventures (don’t forget sunscreen!).
