We compared the living conditions of fish in freshwater aquarium Aquatika in Karlovac and in the river Kupa. We assumed that in an aquarium living conditions will be more favourable compared to the natural habitat. We set research questions: "Is there a difference in the physico-chemical water parameters in freshwater aquarium Aquatika compared to the natural habitat in barbel zone and trout zone? How much do physico-chemical water parameters differ in these two zones - in aquarium and in its natural habitat? From December 2016 to February 2017, we analysed the water samples from the trout zone and barbel zone using GLOBE protocols. Physico-chemical parameters of the barbel zone were compared with the average measurement values from our GLOBE base with measuring stations Kupa1 in the winter months from 2011 to 2015. Measurements of the trout zone were compared with the measurements of Delnice High School on the river Kupa in Delnice from December 2016 to February 2017. The accuracy of our measurements in the measuring station Kupa1 was compared with the official data of Hrvatske vode. Based on our results, we have not confirmed our hypothesis that the living conditions in the aquarium will be favourable for fish compared to the natural habitat. By comparing the physical-chemical parameters of the water from the barbel zone and trout zone, we concluded that they differ only slightly, which is not suitable because each species requires specific conditions for growth and development, as ecological valence shows.
