We are three education students who go to SUNY Fredonia, and we are all ready to learn more about science education and the resources we can use to teach young students science in the classroom. Investi-gator (Northern Research Station) We learned about a science journal called Investi-gator (Northern Research Station) for elementary school students, part of the USDA Forest Service's Natural Inquirer series. The focus of the journal is on the environment. The research found in this issue is based on the northern United States and the data is conducted by Forest Service ...

Hello there!! Our names are Caleigh Fleming and Ashley Kacmarski. We are both senior early childhood education majors at The State University of New York at Fredonia. We decided to explore the Animals and Ecosystems of the Southwestern United States Investi-gator . We chose this because when we were growing up, we were both highly engaged in science lessons about ecosystems and exploring animals across the globe. We thought it would be interesting to learn more about it from a teacher’s perspective. We want our students’ experiences to be as exciting and captivating as ours once were. ...

Hello, we are Emily and Lily! We are currently pursuing careers in elementary education at the State University of New York at Fredonia. We are so excited to become educators, and we find that students learn best through inquiry and making discoveries. We chose the Investi-gator (Northern Research Station) issue because we think that the topics like leaf color changing, impacts of the ozone layers on trees, and soil activity in the winter are all very relevant topics to where we live and hope to teach in western New York. We are both very passionate about our environment and think ...

One of the things that I find the most inspiring about The GLOBE Program , is the rich collaboration that it enables us to have with each other. Speaking for myself, I now have friends literally all around the globe, because of my engagement and interaction with GLOBE. I thought I would take a little time to write about a very inspiring intergenerational collaboration that I have found particularly enriching.   During the virtual GLOBE Annual Meeting in 2021, I was asked by a participant if we could meet up in a virtual room and chat. I was astonished to meet the extremely vibrant ...

We chose this topic because it relates to the dilemma of climate change that it's effect is getting stronger and stronger in the last years, and we chose 3 different soil types in our school to study climate change, and for 2 months we measured the Infra red to those 3 soil types and the its temperature and the weather temperature, also we contributed to GLOBE by filling cloud observations.

This topic was interesting to us because students would be able to connect it to what they can actually see outside. In order to teach students, one of the first things a teacher should do is connect content to prior/background knowledge about the topic.   Investi-gator (Northern Research Station)  We chose the Investi-gator (Northern Research Station) issue because it includes information about leaves and their color change, how ozone affects tree growth, and soil activity in the winter.   We looked at “ Are You Red-dy to Change? ” and an associated ...

For this project, I took a deeper dive into an area of science that did not particularly interest me in high school: Earth System Science. I chose this topic because I wanted to challenge myself to expand my interest in studying Earth science. I also wanted to find ways to teach the impact of aerosols on the ozone layer. Because of my lack of initial interest in this topic, I was able to learn quite a bit about why this is an engaging aspect of science.   Investi-gator (Northern Research Station)  I chose the article “ No Littering O-Zone ” in the Northern ...

Experiment: How are plants cooled? Necessary materials and measuring instruments: - three twigs of a linden or birch tree - three glass jars - oil - a thermometer Work methods: Pick three twigs from the birch tree that differ in the number of leaves. Let one twig be without leaves, on one to have 3-5 leaves, and on the third 10 - 15 leaves.   Make sure that the selected twigs have been at different temperatures, in the sun and in the shade. You can already at the very beginning measure whether there is a difference in the temperature of the leaves of the branch ...

Absolutely privileged to be a part of the change. It was the first of GLOBE Bhutan's participation in an international level expeditions. It was a great opportunity to learn and share our experiences with the colleagues from other GLOBE nations. We look forward in contributing more to the GLOBE program, in making this world a better place to live in.

Hi everyone! Our names are Grace, Olivia, and Logan! We are future elementary school educators looking to gain the necessary skills and knowledge to support our students and be the best educators we can be. When we were tasked with looking at Natural Inquirer and GLOBE resources, we found much information on climate change and how it affects our planet. We wanted to choose a topic that we thought could relate to our lives; climate change continues to be one of the largest issues we face today. As we will be teaching for a long time to come, it is essential we understand this topic in ...

They've traced the problem to the failure of protective material that was lining the throat of an engine nozzle. This led to a drop in combustion pressure and acceleration. When it became clear Vega-C wouldn't make it to orbit, a self-destruct command was sent, which also annihilated the satellites onboard. These were two high-resolution Earth imagers built by the aerospace company Airbus. The European Space Agency (Esa) said on Friday the measures needed to address the failure meant that Vega-C would not fly again until later this year. When it does finally return to the ...

The GLOBE Program supports and encourages climate-focused activities that allow participants to look at the Earth as a system and the interconnectedness of the four GLOBE spheres: Atmosphere, Biosphere, Hydrosphere and Pedosphere. A way that many GLOBE regions and countries, including the GLOBE Implementation Office (GIO), support climate-focused activities and data collection is through the creation and implementation of GLOBE Campaigns, Intensive Observation Periods (IOPs), Data Challenges and other initiatives. Earth Day is another way that the GLOBE community celebrates the ...
