GLOBE Czech Republic Holds Student Conference in Mělník

GLOBE Czech Republic, which is coordinated by TEREZA Educational Center, held a conference on 22 April full of meetings with GLOBE students and teachers, Student Science Fair, and student presentations to celebrate Earth Day and GLOBE's birthday.

The conference, organized by the GLOBE Czech team, was held at the Gymnazium Jana Palacha in Mělník. The GLOBE Implementation Office's Director for Program Strategy and Community Engagement, Dr. Tony Murphy, school principal Ilona Nemcova, U.S. Embassy representative and Deputy of Cultural Attaché, Mr. Todd Jurkowski and his colleague Kristyna Sejnohova, and director of TEREZA Educational Center, Petr Danis, met and opened the conference with a short welcome. Students from around the region presented projects and had a chance to be interviewed by local journalists. A Student Science Fair followed with ample time for Dr. Murphy to interact and ask questions about the students' projects.

The GLOBE Student Conference in the Czech Republic provided a unique opportunity to meet face-to-face with other GLOBE teams, gain new experience and knowledge, and initiate inter-school collaborations. In addition to 23 Czech teams, eight teams from five countries (Ireland, Georgia, Slovenia, North Macedonia, and Ukraine) joined the event. The conference agenda and more information are available at the webpage Earth Day 2024 - GLOBE Student Conference in the Czech Republic.

The GLOBE Europe and Eurasia Regional Office supported the event with stipends for five student teams that presented at the 2024 GLOBE Virtual Student Conference for Europe and Eurasia this past March.

Apart from the conference, Dr. Murphy and members of the Europe and Eurasia Regional Office also visited the Kunratice Elementary School (Prague, Czech Republic), as well as the Elementary School in Zacler and Krkonoše National Park.
