2023 GLOBE Midwest Student Research Symposium
The University of Wisconsin-Madison hosted the GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) Midwest Student Research Symposium (SRS) from April 21-23, 2023 in Madison, WI. Forty-seven students from Grade 5-12 from Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin presented their research projects to twelve judges.Students from the following schools participated: Airport School, Carleton, MI; Beloit Memorial High School, Beloit, WI; Clay High School, Oregon, OH; Clippert Multicultural Honors Academy, Detroit, MI; Crestwood High School, Dearborn Heights, MI; Detroit Public Schools, Detroit, MI; Hilltop Middle & High School, West Unity, OH; and Wooster Schools, Wooster, OH.
Students stayed at the Wisconsin Union Hotel and participated in a weekend filled with events. The events included poster presentations of students’ GLOBE research with expert feedback, an opportunity to meet and talk with scientists and STEM professionals, professional development for educators, and networking and collaboration opportunities for all participants. Additional activities included a GLOBE Jeopardy Game on Friday; Department of Geoscience-guided tour including 3D globe movies and weather balloon launch and tour of the Cave of the Mounds on Saturday; and a Department of Limnology-guided boat tour of Lake Mendota and the limnology lab.
