New Resource Helps with Hosting Local Student Research Symposium
Are you interested in holding an event where students can share the results of their GLOBE research? The GLOBE U.S. Coordination Office developed the Local Student Research Symposium Quick Start Guide (pdf) to help educators and community leaders as they host their own student research symposia (SRS). SRS are opportunities for students to share research, sharpen science communication skills, and develop their identities as scientists.
Since 2016, the GLOBE U.S. Coordination Office has hosted regional SRS throughout the six GLOBE regions in the United States. Local SRS have been organized by GLOBE Partners and educators since the start of the COVID pandemic, when people were less willing to travel. Youth Learning As Citizen Environmental Scientists (YLACES) continues to fund local SRS events in the United States. Evaluation results from both local and regional SRS were used to develop the quick start guide.
The quick start guide will help you learn about four key components of the SRS:
- Discussing research with STEM professionals
- Engaging in peer review
- Learning about science careers
- Participating in hands-on activities
The guide includes links to additional resources and sample flyers, project review forms, and more.
While this guide was developed with United States users in mind, it will be useful to all GLOBE community members.
