Batasan Hills National High School Collected Water Measurements in LPPCHEA

[[BHNHS Student Collecting Water Sample]]
A 175-acre protected area known as the Las Pinas-Paranaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA) is situated between the southwest corner of Metro Manila and Manila Bay at coordinates 14.481158, 120.971586, and 14.502763, 120.988237. LPPCHEA is primarily made up of mudflats, although it also has patches of scrub, grass, sand, dirt, and mangroves. The eight plant species that make up the majority of the vegetation in the 30-hectare area are mangroves. With the building of Las Pinas-Paranaque Wetland Park at LPPCHEA, locals in Metro Manila and from other areas will be able to learn about the local, societal, and international significance of wetlands in the nation. The Society for the Conservation of Philippine Wetlands, the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority, Villar SIPAG, and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – National Capital Region are leading its implementation (SCPW).

The Batasan Hills National High School visited the area to conduct an analysis of the soil and water surrounding the vicinity of LPPWP. Two teams were divided to study the following protocols: soil pH, soil moisture, air temperature, land cover, water pH, and water temperature. All of which affect the quality of both the soil and water in the area. The waters of Manila Bay were tested for their temperature and pH while four different sites for soil such as land near the shore, the shore, the mangroves, and inland were investigated. Together with the Asia and Pacific countries of the GLOBE community, the data that was collected by the students of BHNHS was presented last February 2, 2023, during World Wetlands Day. Students got to share their experiences and everything that they have learned in the activity that they have done. It was a fun and enlightening adventure for them as it was the first time for most of them.
