Let's Celebrate World Oceans Day

World Oceans Day, held every 8 June is the United Nations-recognized day of ocean celebration and action. People all over our blue planet organize celebrations - which can be a huge event in your community, to a note in a newsletter giving more information, or a special event at school - to support action to protect the ocean. This year, the theme is Healthy oceans, healthy planet. We're asking everyone to mark the day in some way! A major goal this year is to help people reduce their disposable plastic use, to keep the ocean and its animals safer and healthier.

Or visit the World Oceans Day website to learn more about the challenges our oceans are facing and how you can make a difference: www.worldoceansday.org

Another great way you can get involved is by checking out our YUNGA Ocean Challenge Badge; you can look at how people use the ocean and its resources, discover the effect this has on the marine environment and find lots of ideas about how individuals can take action to help make this close relationship more sustainable: www.fao.org/3/a-i3465e.pdf

And, don't forget about the YUNGA Youth Guide to the Ocean! It illustrates many of the wonders of the ocean, what the ocean does for us and what we are doing to the ocean. It also describes what is being done at the national and international level to protect the ocean, and it highlights some of the steps that you can take to develop a successful marine project: www.fao.org/3/a-i4224e.pdf
